Meet Dr Will Cranwell

Dr Will Cranwell is a consultant dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. He is trained in all aspects of medical and surgical dermatology. Dr Cranwell offers both medical and cosmetic consultations at the Dermatology Clinics Australia, Newstead.

Specialist areas:
Dr. Will Cranwell specialises in the treatment of facial and body scarring (due to acne, trauma, surgery, burns, keloids) and various laser procedures addressing both medical and cosmetic concerns. He also has specialty interest in hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). In addition to his expertise in medical and surgical dermatology, Dr. Cranwell also provides cosmetic treatments, including injectables and other energy-based devices. He collaborates closely with the Dermatology Clinics Australia team of dermal therapists and cosmetic nurses to ensure that patients can access a full range of tailored treatments.

Dr. Cranwell's deep understanding of the delicate balance between medical and cosmetic interventions, particularly in the context of skin conditions, is evident in his approach. He is a firm advocate of providing a comprehensive range of services to cater to the varied needs and anxieties of our patients, free from any form of judgement.

Medical Training and Professional Activities:

Dr Cranwell graduated with Honours from Monash University with dual degrees in Medicine and Biomedical Science, awarded the Harry Hindlip Green Prize in Medicine. He has completed a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He completed general medical and surgical internship and residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, prior to specialty dermatology training.

Dr Cranwell completed his dermatology specialist training at tertiary referral hospitals in Melbourne, including The Alfred Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and Box Hill Hospital. He was the recipient of the Australasian College of Dermatologists Research Fellowship to undertake training at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, London in 2020. Here he worked alongside world experts in complex eczema, psoriasis, cutaneous lymphoma, immunobullous conditions, phototherapy and paediatrics.

During specialist training, Dr Cranwell was the recipient of the Founders’ Medal for the highest overall score in Australia in the Procedural fellowship examinations. This included dermatological surgery, injectables, lasers and topical treatments for skin cancer. He also received the Adrian Johnson Memorial Prize for best publication in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology as the primary author of the Australian Expert Consensus Statement for the treatment of alopecia areata.

Dr Cranwell is widely published in Australian and International medical journals and speaks at local and international seminars and conferences. He is a peer reviewer for Australian and International journals including the British Journal of Dermatology and Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. He has been a sub-investigator in international clinical trials investigating treatments for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, pemphigus vulgaris, epidermolysis bullosa and vitiligo. He is actively involved in the education of Dermatology trainees, Junior Doctors and General Practitioners.

Dr Cranwell is dedicated to providing safe and personalised treatments to help his patients achieve long lasting and natural looking results.

Will joined the Dermatology Clinics Australia team in 2024, having relocated from hometown Melbourne. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and two sons, training triathlon, and fishing.

Dr Will Cranwell is a fully qualified specialist dermatologist, board-certified by the Australasian College of Dermatologists. He has numerous qualifications as a doctor, researcher and public health specialist.
